Practical training for investment, finance, and development

Investment and development teams need to apply their knowledge to demanding assignments, from appraising a project to deploying a financing facility or supporting a growing enterprise. Volta builds capability around that work, with programs designed for the responsibilities participants hold and the decisions they need to make.

We work with development finance institutions, banks, investors, implementing agencies, and businesses. Programs can serve an institution's own teams or the financial intermediaries, enterprises, and delivery partners it supports.

Learning priorities

Investment appraisal and financial analysis. Accounting and financial analysis, credit assessment, project appraisal, financial modeling, cash flow analysis, and the interpretation of investment risks and sensitivities.

Development and sustainable finance. Development finance instruments, blended finance, climate and green finance, environmental and social considerations, and the application of international frameworks to lending and investment.

Program design and delivery. Technical assistance design, implementation planning, partner coordination, results frameworks, and the use of performance evidence in managing development programs.

Enterprise growth and readiness. Business planning, financial management, governance, commercial strategy, and the capabilities enterprises need to access finance, win contracts, and manage growth.

Institutional leadership and decision-making. Executive and board sessions on investment priorities, institutional responsibilities, emerging financing approaches, and the organizational changes needed to implement them.

Designed around the work participants need to do

We agree the learning priorities with the institution, assess participants' starting points, and build the program around relevant cases, tools, and assignments. Delivery can combine executive sessions, structured cohorts, practical workshops, and coaching, in person, online, or through a blended format, in English or French.

Participants work through financial models, investment cases, implementation plans, or other tasks relevant to their roles. Where a longer program is needed, follow-up sessions help teams apply the learning, address difficulties, and establish shared practices.
