Building credit and project finance capability
Development banking · Nigeria
Delivered annual training cohorts over four years for development bank staff, from junior officers to managers. The program covered accounting, credit analysis, project appraisal, and the construction and interpretation of a complete project finance model.
The situation
A national development bank's credit and project officers were appraising corporate and project finance proposals without a consistent grounding in accounting and financial analysis. The bank wanted capability its own staff would keep, across grades.
Our role
Our senior team designed and delivered the program, one cohort a year for four years, online in one year and in person at the bank's headquarters in the final year.
The work
Each cohort worked through accounting fundamentals, credit principles, the credit review process, project appraisal, and a complete project finance model built in class: revenues and project cost through the debt schedule, balance sheet, cash flow, cover ratios, and sensitivities.
What changed
Cohorts ran from junior officers to managers, and the bank's officers now build and interrogate the models they previously took on trust.
