The situation
A major highway investment in Kenya was heading into construction with imported labor, because local firms had neither the skilled workforce nor the standards to take the work. The procurement demand was real; local capability to meet it was not.

Our senior team assessed the skills gap and designed the program that connected local contractors, workers, and training institutions to the investment.
The work
We ran rapid needs assessments with construction companies and vocational institutions to identify the critical trades, then designed a program of approximately $500,000 covering curriculum, trainer certification, and SME participation, and negotiated the delivery partnerships between the investor, the training institutions, and local contractors.
What changed
Local contractors and SMEs had a route into the work, and the training institutions had a curriculum tied to what the investment needed.
